I now have a solid concept for my promotional video (although this could still change or be altered) and will come back to animate it at a later date. I now need to consider the visual identity for the event, including the events logo, as this will be visable thoughout all of the work that I produce.
Colours:
Traditionally the colours used for World Cup Identities are that of the host nation.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup is being staged in South Africa so my initial thoughts were to look at the south African flag and use the same colours throughout it's visual identity-
Black Yellow White Green Red Blue
Below are some examples of logos from past world cup events:
Below are some examples of logos from past European Cups and Uefa competitions:
Below are some examples of African Football logos including logos for the 2010 World Cup:
Here are a couple of ideas I intend to storyboard.
My first idea is to combine two of my initial concepts, concept one and concept three.
Scene one: Camera pans across Football pitch. Scene Two: Camera pans across African plains. Scene Three: Crowd of football fans walking towards stamiam. Scene Four: Herd of wildebeast (migration) Scene Five: Footballer running. Scene Six: Lion/Cheetah Running. Scene Seven: Player taking down opposition. Scene Eight: Lion/ Cheetah/ Leopard taking down prey. Scene Nine: Player scoring and then celebrating. Scene Ten: Lion Roaring. Scene Eleven: Tag line. Scene Twelve: Logo.
Throughout this idea I also hope to relate football superstars with relivant animals. (eg Cheetah - Ronaldinho)
My second idea is to use traditional abstact imagery (similar to the images below) and create a series of animations related to football.
I am considering a collaboration with another artist at some point throughout this project. If I choose to do this I intend to collaborate with an African artist as the event is being held in South Africa.
Compere the world of the Serengetti with the world of international football.
Examples: Herd of Buffalo - Crowd of football fans Lion/ Cheetah hunting its prey - A football player hunting the ball/ opposing player Lion catching/ taking down its prey - Player tackling/ taking down an opposing player Lion roaring - Fan/ Player celebrating African plains - Football pitch
Create a visual identity and short promotional video for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
FORMAT:
The form this project shall take is that of a promotional animation/ video. I shall also create a complete visual identity for the 2010 FIFA World Cup; this will include Logo design, corporate colours and a possible mascot for the event. According to how I manage my time throughout the duration of this project, Poster design and an online presence are also a possibility.
DESCRIPTION:
Promote the FIFA World Cup 2010, an event that will be broadcast all over the world and watched by millions. Therefore it must carry a positive message that can be understood worldwide. It shall also visually represent the host country of South Africa. My target is to make people all over the world aware that the FIFA World cup is upon us and to sit up, take notice and support their country. I want to create a sense of anticipation and excitement. My target audience for this project are the hearts of every man, every woman and every child. The tone of voice is Celebratory, Awe-inspiring, Grand, United and the sense of anticipation.
